Noah. When Adam was 130 years old, he and Eve had a son who he named Seth. Scripture doesn’t say much about Seth, other than he had a son, Enoch.
As it turns out, the lineage through Seth was truly God’s Grace and faithfulness fulfilled, as
Seth is the son of Adam and Eve who is in the genealogy of Jesus.
Enoch, a descendant of Seth, was described as having a very intimate relationship with God in that he “walked with God” (Genesis 5:22-24), and that God took him up into Heaven instead of him dying the usual death on earth.
Enoch walked with God for 365 years, and through the generations, fathered Methuselah.
Methuselah lived 969 years, fathering many sons and daughters, including Lamech, who fathered Noah. (Genesis 5:28). Noah notably sounds like the Hebrew word for comfort.
Pearl: It is of interest to note the longevity of people in the 10 generations from Adam through Seth to Noah. For whatever purpose, this was obviously part of God’s comprehensive plan.
With people living such long lives, Adam would have still been living at the time that Seth, and even Lamech, the father of Noah were around.
It is possible that the older, wiser, Adam helped educate his descendants about the creator of the universe, the Master Creator God. He may have told his younger relatives about being cast of the Garden of Eden due to his sin of trusting the Devil.
Perhaps Adam even shared with his younger relatives the prophesy that God had made to the Devil about how there will be an offspring of a human woman who will crush the Devil, written in Genesis 3:15,
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring, he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
As far as Adam’s living sons, Seth and Cain, it is of interest in noting the two distinct lineages that descended from each, as it is apparent that two very different groups of people developed.
Descendants of Seth, such as Enoch were people who loved God, and lived righteously before Him. Cain’s offspring however, did quite the contrary.
There are clear distinctions between the two lineages, leading to the terms Sethites, who were godly and followed God, and the Cainites who were ungodly people.
Noah, a descendant of Seth, was 500 years old when he fathered three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth.
Importantly, these three sons will also become divergent in their God-fearing heritages.

About the Author
Jana Jones McDowell DVM, DAVCA, DAVECC has spent a lifetime practicing Veterinary Medicine and former Professor at a College of Veterinary Medicine.
A Christian, Dr. Jones began her research into Biblical studies a number of years ago, focusing on “context.”
Her research revolves around the “context,” with the study and application of the Judaica Books of the Prophets and the Hagiographa (A new English translation of the Hebrew Masoretic text and commentaries by Rashi and other Rabbinical scholars), and the books of the Midrash Rabbah. The basis of this was the exegesis of the Hebrew bible with application to the origins of Christianity.
Now retired, Dr. Jones spends time researching and applying the depth of her studies into books and as a student of the Israel Bible Center, studying deeper into Jewish context and the application to Christianity.
Dr. Jones and her husband, reside in the southwest with their horses, bengal cat named Ravi and their border collie, Sarah.
